The Champaign City Council will vote tonight on launching a Downtown Intersection and Resurfacing Improvements Project. It would bring accessibility improvements, new traffic lights and resurfaced streets — to the tune of more than $1 million.
Dennis Schmidt, the city's public works director, said the project is slated for completion before winter starts.
The following street portions would be milled and resurfaced, according to a city report:
— Neil Street between Springfield and University avenues.
— Walnut Street between White Street and University.
— Walnut between Chester and Main streets.
— Chester between Neil and Walnut.
— Taylor Street east of Walnut.
— Market Street between University and Main.
In addition, those areas would have any deteriorating curbs and sidewalks replaced and sidewalk ramps brought up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
